I'm a doctoral student at the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago. I have a Master of Arts in Sociology from DePaul University and a Bachelor of Social Work from Loyola University at Chicago. Broadly speaking, my academic interests are the sociology of punishment, critical criminology, intersection of mental health and criminal justice, social inequality, race and ethnicity, qualitative research, and critical social policy. I interrogate issues of identity, culture, power, legal practices and discourses, marginalization and social control. I'm a true urbanite, having a profound appreciation for large chaotic cities and all the social, political, cultural, and economic clashes that occur within them. Outside of academic life, I spend my time religiously listening to music, working hard at being a father, and hunting out new and exciting bars, restaurants, and lounges for good food and great alcohol and superbly profane and unscrupulous conversations.
